2008 - going, going, go....

It is ANOTHER exciting year's end at the Burlands. Poor Marie has ended up with the very most boring American family possible, it seems. All we have been doing for our vacation is cleaning out closets and rearranging our house from top to bottom. We really get into it too! Dominic is as anal as Dave and me. We all are like Tammy and I used to be when we would rearrange our bedroom. We rearranged our living room and the family room downstairs (Dominic's hangout) and we all were so impressed that Dominic and his friend Chris stayed down and watched basketball while playing x-box basketball - then I heard them throwing the real basketball around. Dave stayed up and watched tv in the living room till late. Part of rearranging the living room was setting up the tv we won in the living room last night. We have been donating stuff to church and even the school and cleaning house big time! Awwww.

See what I mean about poor Marie? She said she might just go to bed early tonight and wake up tomorrow morning in 2009. She said last year her sisters and their boyfriends went out and they had made a pact that the next year (which would be this one) they would include Marie and all go out - and here she is so far away from them. She said there are big celebrations (which there are here too but we just are so content in our newly organized house!) all over that people go to. Oh well - she will live. I tried to make things happen for her a few months ago with other teenagers on an outing to Carrie Underwood and it was a disaster so she is on her own - she will have to settle for what we do - which must appear to a 17-year-old German teen to be nothing. She has a friend from Egypt who lives in Mission (just 15 miles from here) - maybe she will invite her over - I learned not to invite just anyone for her - she needs to make her own friends. There actually is a party at the Hangin' Art Gallary here in Arlee tonight. Maybe she will go to that with another family that she used to live with.

Yesterday, Christopher and Dominic and Marie helped Dave try to figure out how to get Dominic's x-box wired to go online. They spent at least 2 hours trying to figure out how to get the wires through the floor. What they ended up doing is moving the equipment for our wireless connection to the downstairs and rearranging the family room so that all of the electronics are on the opposite side of what it was. We took down the big desk that we had in the corner and I am ready to take that to the church as well for their spring bazaar. See, this year I am helping with the junior high youth group so was given a key to the church - it is very cool as while I pile up stuff that we don't use, I have Dominic haul it out to the Durango and then drive it over.

This morning, Marie has been up already for a light breakfast before she practices for wrestling at 9:00. Today the workout is called the "Peanut Marathon" and it is basically running stairs for 2 hours. Gese - I can't imagine. She got up at about 6:30 and then went back to bed.

Well, on with New Year's Eve! Have a good one everyone.

  1. Oh well, Marie will have lots to tell about when she is back in Germany. She will tell about this family she lived with that when they vacationed they cleaned. :) Is Dominic doing anything special for New Year's Eve?
